Question 1

What does a Saturation Diving System Technician do?

Accepted Answer

A Saturation Diving System Technician installs, maintains, tests and repairs the deck decompression chambers, diving bells, gas management panels and life-support equipment used in saturation diving operations.

Question 2

What systems will I learn to install, maintain and repair?

Accepted Answer

You will work with deck decompression chambers, diving bells, gas mixing and monitoring panels, and the full range of life-support components used in a saturation diving system.

Question 3

Do I need prior diving or technical experience to enroll?

Accepted Answer

This course suits candidates with a mechanical, technical or maintenance background — prior experience with commercial diving equipment (such as the Air Diving System Technician course) is an advantage but not always mandatory.

Question 4

What certification will I receive after completing the course?

Accepted Answer

Graduates receive a MECD Saturation Diving System Technician competence certificate outlining the course content and confirming their saturation equipment servicing competence.

Question 5

How is this different from the Air Diving System Technician course?

Accepted Answer

This course focuses specifically on the more complex systems used in saturation diving — deck decompression chambers, diving bells and multi-day life-support systems — rather than the surface supplied air diving equipment covered in the Air Diving System Technician course.

Question 6

What career opportunities are available after certification?

Accepted Answer

Graduates are qualified to work as saturation diving equipment technicians supporting offshore saturation diving projects, one of the most specialized and in-demand roles in the commercial diving industry.
