Question 1

Do I need to complete the ROV Pilot Technician course first?

Accepted Answer

No. These supplementary courses are open to both trainee and certified ROV pilots/technicians. They can be taken alongside or after the main ROV Pilot Technician Grade 2 course to build focused technical skills.

Question 2

Can I take just one course, or do I need to complete all six?

Accepted Answer

Each course is a standalone module. You can enroll in a single course to fill a specific skill gap, or take several together — including logged ROV Pilot Flying Hours — as a broader technical upgrade package.

Question 3

What safety standards does the High Voltage Awareness course follow?

Accepted Answer

The course covers safe isolation, lock-out/tag-out and hazard-recognition procedures aligned with recognized offshore electrical safety practice for ROV power and distribution systems.

Question 4

Is prior electronics or hydraulics experience required?

Accepted Answer

No prior experience is required. Each course starts from the fundamentals and builds toward practical, job-ready competence through hands-on bench work.

Question 5

How long does each supplementary course take?

Accepted Answer

Most modules are short, intensive courses that can be scheduled individually or combined. Contact MECD for exact durations and the next available enrollment dates.

Question 6

What is the ROV Pilot Flying Hours course and who needs it?

Accepted Answer

It is supervised, logged simulator and live-system piloting time that helps trainee ROV pilots build up the documented flying hours offshore contractors and hiring logbooks typically expect before a first offshore placement — a practical bridge between classroom training and real deployment.
