Question 1

Is MECD's Kirby Morgan certificate recognized offshore?

Accepted Answer

Yes. MECD is an Authorized Training School certified by Dive Lab, the official Kirby Morgan (KMDSI) training authority, so certificates are recognized by offshore diving contractors worldwide.

Question 2

Do I need diving experience to take the Operator course?

Accepted Answer

The Operator course is intended for working commercial divers, tenders and supervisors who already use or will use Kirby Morgan equipment on the job.

Question 3

How often do I need to renew my Kirby Morgan certification?

Accepted Answer

The Operator/User certificate is valid for two years initially and three years upon re-certification. Repair Technician certification renewal follows Dive Lab's current recommended schedule — ask our team for the latest requirement.

Question 4

What's the difference between the Technician and Operator courses?

Accepted Answer

The Technician course teaches full disassembly, repair and overhaul of Kirby Morgan helmets and band masks. The Operator course teaches safe daily inspection, setup and use only — it does not cover repair procedures.

Question 5

Which Kirby Morgan models are covered?

Accepted Answer

Training covers the KMDSI helmet and band mask models used across commercial and offshore diving operations, following current Dive Lab / Kirby Morgan maintenance standards.
