Question 1

What is a Commercial Scuba Diver and how does it differ from surface supplied diving?

Accepted Answer

A Commercial Scuba Diver uses a self-contained breathing apparatus (scuba) rather than an umbilical-fed surface supplied helmet, and is trained to carry out light inshore commercial tasks — such as inspection, cleaning and minor underwater work — within recognized depth and safety limits.

Question 2

Do I need prior scuba diving experience to enroll?

Accepted Answer

No prior commercial diving experience is required. Basic recreational scuba familiarity is helpful but not mandatory — MECD's instructors build every skill from the fundamentals up to commercial task-diving standard.

Question 3

What certification will I receive after completing the course?

Accepted Answer

Graduates receive an IDSA Diving Qualification Card (IDSA Level 1), a Commercial Scuba Diver Certificate, a First Aid Certificate, a Commercial Diver logbook, and an Educational Statement.

Question 4

What depth does this course qualify me to work to?

Accepted Answer

This entry-level course qualifies graduates as Commercial Scuba Divers to a working depth of 30 meters, suitable for inshore commercial diving tasks within that depth range.

Question 5

Can I progress to surface supplied diver training afterward?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many graduates use the Commercial Scuba Diver qualification as a stepping stone toward MECD's Surface Supplied Air Diver (30m / 50m) courses as they build commercial diving experience.
